Leveraging Plant Power for a Longevity and a Greater Quality of Life

When we ponder our mortality, I think many of us can agree on a single attribute we’d like to possess as we grow older.

Despite our wide variation of spiritual beliefs, upbringings, relationships, and political standings, we’re all aiming for a good quality of life.

The essential and distinguishing attribute of quality of life is defined differently for everyone, however, another commonality between us (us being the human race) is that the majority of us envision ourselves with a good quality of life that includes having the ability to function pain-free, live without stress or anxiety, and to feel and look youthful, even as we age.

However, just because we all desire a quality of life we deem as good doesn’t mean we’re all striving for it. In some cases, which I can speak to from personal experience, taking strides in obtaining and maintaining the quality of life we seek requires a catalyst to take action.

For me, that catalyst has come through the loss of close friends and family members, many of whom were far too young to exit this world, especially in a day in age where we have incredible access to information and resources that contribute to longer life spans.

I still crave to hear my loved one's voices, feel their presence and have more time together, but it’s these losses that have influenced my desire to be my healthiest self and share methods of doing so with others. I want to be here on Earth, creating memories and making a positive impact on the world far into my old age.

On my quest for a high quality of life and longevity, I turn to what I trust most, science.

Particularly, science at the cellular level.

In regards to aging, the process of telomere testing, which are the chromosomes within our DNA that allow cells to divide, fortify or secure our genetic data, and control aging,  gives us insight into how our bodies are moving through the aging process.

One of the most notable factors contributing to the shortening of telomere length and accelerated aging on a cellular level is oxidative stress and inflammation.

Inflammation is the root of many preventable diseases and ailments, and while the basis of inflammation can be an auto-immune response for some, for the majority, it’s our daily activities that are feeding this toxic reaction in the body.

This is why I emphasize the use of antioxidants not just in our diets, but also in the products we use, and it’s also why eating a diet of whole, nutrient-rich foods, and adequate movement of your body are vital in our journey for the quality of life we desire.

Because I’m so invested in the natural power of plants and the benefits they possess in regards to the internal and external aging processes, I’ve been fascinated with learning more about Cannabidiol (CBD), especially as this plant property has gained a greater foothold in the esthetics industry.

If you’re not familiar with the science of CBD, here’s a quick breakdown:

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of many compounds found in the hemp plant. Along with other compounds present in the hemp plant including cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and fatty acids, they synergistically interact to produce what’s called the entourage effect, which refers to the beneficial effect of all these compounds working together rather than in isolation.

Furthermore, CBD produces no psychoactive “high” typically associated with cannabis, and with many studies demonstrating how this exquisitely biodiverse plant is a prominent healing agent, the social stigma that cannabis is reserved for “hippies and hipsters” is becoming a thing of the past.

With its proven abilities to significantly reduce inflammation throughout the body, CBD-based solutions have tremendous clinical potential and are becoming more widely used and recommended by medical and wellness professionals with patients who are looking to increase their quality of life by minimizing pain, stress, and anxiety.

From an esthetician’s perspective, Whole Plant CBD is truly the latest and greatest ingredient in the skin care market as it is a natural anti-inflammatory compound, which aids in natural anti-aging efforts.

For example, when we perform micro-needling treatments, we are inducing inflammation to trigger a collagen repair response. However, there is no cookie cutter protocol for this treatment, and if the skin goes through too much inflammation, the outcome may show undesirable results.

For those clients who crave the results they’re achieving with micro-needling and want to maintain them with regular treatments, CBD is an excellent supplement for counteracting that consistent inflammation.

As far as addressing oxidative stress and preventing the damaging effects of free radicals that contribute to aging, vitamin C is the holy grail, but not just any ordinary Vitamin C.

Vitamin C that quickly passes through digestion and is eliminated through urination doesn’t allow our bodies time to process the nutrients, so to properly absorb Vitamin C (the immunity strengthener and the key to lighter, brighter, tighter skin) it must be delivered to the fat and water within our bodies, which is precisely how our Liposomal Vitamin C supplement functions.

As you can see, the passion for science runs deep, which is why I created Herbal Skin Solutions.

I’ve made it my mission to spend the time and resources researching, developing, formulating, and partnering with ingredients and other companies that not only raise the level of success for estheticians but also level up the quality of life for the greater good.
